Who is This For?
Anyone interested in service design! Whether you're a seasoned service designer, someone looking to pivot into service design, or just curious about how service design principles can apply to your field of work, everyone is welcome.
Great discussions come out of varied lived experiences and perspectives. Feeling shy about your limited service design experience? Don't be, the goal is to learn together!
What is Service Design?
Service design is an interdisciplinary practice that leverages research to solve problems in a system or service, leveraging design thinking to solve the problem. Service designers look holistically at an entire service ecosystem, factoring in the employee, customer, and stakeholder experience to deliver a cohesive service solution. No matter your title, anyone can do service design work or benefit from learning about service design concepts. Join us to learn more!
What Will We Be Reading?
- Chapter 1: Visualizing Value: Aligning Outside-In
- Chapter 2: Fundamentals of Mapping Experiences
- Chapter 3: Employee Experience: Aligning Inside
- Chapter 4: Visualizing Strategic Insight
- Chapter 5: Initiate: Starting a Mapping Project
We're tackling each book over the course of 2-3 meetings to work through the book together in a way that's sustainable and supportive for busy professionals.
Got a section you're passionate about discussing, especially because of how it relates to your work or personal interests? Feel free to jump in for just that session!
Got a busy month at work and you know you won't have any time to dedicate to reading? Jump in at the next one!
We want to make this easy and fun for everyone. We're here to build accountability, not be another thing for you to feel guilty about.
What Should I Expect?
Fun vibes and a great discussion! We'll be going over our thoughts about a few chapters, chatting about how it relates to our professional experiences, and learning about each other along the way.
If there's something you'd like us to include in our agenda or that you think would be beneficial for the discussion, please reach out to sdnsf15@gmail.com.
What is Groundfloor?
Groundfloor is a coworking and community space in Temescal. This is the first time the Service Design Book Club is being hosted in the space, we're giving it a try!
How Will I Find the Group?
The book club leader be checking the front door periodically for the first 15 minutes to let folks in. If you don't see her, please email sdnsf15@gmail.com and someone will come grab you. If someone else lets you in, please follow the hallway on the right, past the phone booths. We'll be meeting in the library!
How Can I Get There?
BART: MacArthur Station is a few minutes walk away.
Car: For those driving, there's plenty of street parking nearby.
How Can I Stay In the Loop?
We'll be sending out emails about the book club meetings on top of updating the Service Design Network Slack and a fledgling WhatsApp group. To get added to any of these, email us at sdnsf15@gmail.com!
Don't miss out on this chance to expand your knowledge and build connections in a casual and supportive environment. We hope to see you there!
