About this event
Welcome to Sensory-Friendly Winter Lights at Shelburne Museum!
What makes these nights "Sensory-Friendly?"
Join us for a gentle, less crowded, supported experience geared towards individuals with sensory needs. Each time slot will have a smaller number of tickets available, meaning you'll have more space to explore and less dense crowds on the Museum grounds.
Sensory-Friendly elements include:
- A social narrative
- Know-Before-You-Go materials
- Staffing by the Education Team who will greet you and provide assistance and guidance during the event
- Encouragement to bring headphones, fidgets, and any support materials that you may need
- Lights and sound are not adjusted, but are gentle and soft throughout the grounds
Please reach out to us with any questions or to talk through any accessibility needs by emailing education@shelburnemuseum.org or calling 802.985.0924.

Here's some feedback from last year's Sensory-Friendly Winter Lights:
- "Thank you for offering a sensory friendly experience! So often we need to advocate for and explain what our child needs and it can be both frustrating and exhausting. Having a night where our child's needs were included without having to ask was amazing. It made for a fun night for all of us!"
- "Just the fact that it was a sensory friendly event made my child feel more comfortable. They knew people would be understanding and thoughtful about if and how they approached us and that my child could let their guard down and just enjoy the experience. It was also helpful that it wasn't crowded. The information sent beforehand was so thoughtful and clear. My child felt included and safe."
About Winter Lights: A spectacular holiday tradition!
Winter Lights at Shelburne Museum is a brilliant and beautiful display of colorful light installations with musical moments throughout the Museum’s campus. Winter Lights delights visitors of all ages with imaginatively and wondrously bedecked buildings and gardens. The 220-foot steamboat Ticonderoga floating in a sea of light is among the most impressively illuminated structures, and the magical, other worldly Beach Woods, with its thousands of cascading firefly-like twinkling lights is a fan favorite. Winter Lights is an experience not to miss and a holiday tradition that delights all ages.
