It’s tinker time! Explore art through the eyes of a builder with sensory friendly gallery activities, invent something unexpected, and create something great with special guests from the community as we learn about artists who build, plan, and engineer their art.
Sensory Exploration is a free program for families with children of all ages who are on the autism spectrum. Families will have time to explore artworks in the galleries and get creative during a hands-on, art-making experience! While the needs of individuals with autism are the focus of this program, it is also intended to be fun for parents, siblings (of all ages), and other relatives!
Schedule:
- Play with LEGO and DUPLO at a pop-up building station hosted by our friends at Rogue Brick Builders' Lounge.
- Meet with Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and do a fun STEAM activity.
- Experiment with balance and create a kinetic sculpture using wood, wire, and other found materials.
- Visit sensory stations in the galleries and learn about twirling flowers, mending fences, and building with blocks inspired by Carter artists James Surls, Louise Nevelson, and Frederic Remington.
- Help us test our new communication boards, designed to help nonspeaking visitors explore and communicate with friends and family in the galleries.
- Learn about museum rules and parking before you visit: https://www.cartermuseum.org/plan-your-visit
