Six years ago, outside a committee hearing, our lobbyist was told that legislative leadership and members thought that the Secular Coalition for AZ was just a few people sitting in a room and not to be taken seriously. Our lobbyist decided it was time to organize the first-ever "Secular Day at the Capitol" to show that support for secular government is more than just a few people sitting in a room, it's a movement!

That first year, we had just two weeks to organize the event and ended up with 25 people showing up. We ate subway sandwiches out of the back of Zenaido's truck. Not bad for a first year, but we knew we could do better.

The second year, we had a little more time to plan the event and we doubled up with 50 people showing up.

This got the attention of our national groups, and by the third year we had nationally-renowned speakers and 150 people.

Seems year after year since then we attract about 150 people to the Capitol for this day. The result is a sea of blue "Secular AZ" shirts on some amazing people hanging out near the House and Senate, showing our elected officials we are more than just a few people sitting in a dark room. We are powerful together!
