Description: Helping professionals are often exposed to the trauma of others in their work. While providing essential support to those in need, it is critical that you learn how to care for your own wellbeing. This workshop is designed to equip participants with the tools and strategies needed to recognize and manage the impact of secondary traumatic stress, enhance self-awareness, and build resilience. By the end of this workshop, you will have a deeper understanding of the emotional and physiological effects of trauma exposure, along with practical, evidence-based tools to support your own mental and emotional health.

*This workshop was formally titled Secondary Trauma and Self-Care. If you have already taken that course, you do not need to re-take this updated title.

Objectives:

As a result of this course, participants will be prepared to:

  1. Define Secondary Traumatic Stress.
  2. Identify Nervous System Activation and assess Your Risk and Protective Factors
  3. Enhance Emotion Regulation, Self-Compassion, and Mindfulness.

Skill Level: Recommended for LMSW beginning and intermediate skill levels.

Instructor: Amanda Dubey-Zerka, LMSW

Amanda Dubey-Zerka, LMSW received her Master's Degree from Michigan State University in 2006. Amanda is an Instructor for MSU School of Social Work and co-owns Wise Willow Counseling & Consulting in East Lansing, MI. Amanda is Nationally Certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD (CPT – PTSD), and has over 14 years of experience working with children, teens, and adults who have survived trauma. Amanda is a Master Trainer for the Michigan ACE Initiative and regularly provides trainings on the impact of trauma and ACEs.
