Second Thursdays at the Carter: Collect & Create

Second Thursdays at the Carter: Collect & Create

By Amon Carter Museum of American Art

Overview

Come break the rules and say “yes!” to new art experiences at the Carter’s Second Thursdays!

Each month you’ll find something different than the last—mingle with fellow art lovers, make art, and meet visiting artists, sometimes with live music and always with themed cocktails inspired by the Carter’s collection. This month, discover tricks to starting your own art collection and explore the paintings in American Modernism from the Charles Butt Collection.

Schedule

5–6 p.m.

Listen to a happy-hour live performance by musician Jakob Robertson. Robertson is an Americana/Folk singer-songwriter from Fort Worth.

5–8 p.m.

Enjoy drinks for purchase, including a specialty whiskey cocktail called The Gentleman. Carter members get one complimentary drink! Lite bites are available for purchase at the Carter’s Food Cart.

Inspired by the artworks in the “Geometric Utopias/Dystopias” section of American Modernism, create abstract structural renderings on your own collectible coaster with Carter Community Artist LaShonda Cooks. Supplies limited to the first 200 people.

Explore American Modernism through the Carter Library’s extensive illustrated-book collection. Patrons can view the unique art displayed and peruse a collection of books to learn more about the richness of illustrated books.

6–7:30 p.m.

Join Joan Wyatt, art curator for Charles Butt, and Andrew Schoelkopf, owner of Schoelkopf Gallery, for an Exhibition Talk with Carter curator Shirley Reece-Hughes. Together, they will talk about collecting American art professionally and personally, how to get started collecting art, and works in the exhibition American Modernism from the Charles Butt Collection. Following the conversation will be an audience Q&A. Seating for the talk will be first come, first served for the first 160 people.

American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will be provided during the conversation. Additional interpretation may be provided during this event upon advance request. Please send us an email for more information.
