Why did the world suddenly treat stuffed animals like gold? Ty Warner was a frustrated toy salesman until his collaboration with three women grew his masterstroke of an idea into the biggest toy craze in history. The Beanie Bubble is an inventive story about what and who we value, and the unsung heroes whose names didn't appear on the heart-shaped tag. R | 110 min

Damian Kulash, Jr. is a singer, composer, filmmaker, and the frontman for the polymath rock group OK Go. He is the band’s primary songwriter, and director of their long string of boundary-pushing music videos, racking up billions views online. OK Go have danced in zero gravity and on treadmills, built a warehouse-sized Rube Goldberg machine to run in sync with a song, and choreographed hundreds of explosions filmed in under 5 seconds. Damian’s work has received a Grammy, the Smithsonian American Ingenuity Award, three MTV VMAs, twenty-one Cannes Lions, and three Webby Awards, and has been presented at The Guggenheim, MoCA, LACMA, and The Hirschhorn. His songs have been in hundreds of movies, TV shows, and commercials.

Damian and his wife Kristin Gore made their joint directing debut with the Apple TV+ feature The Beanie Bubble. He co-wrote the score with Nathan Barr.

Nathan Barr is an Emmy-winning composer who has received critical acclaim for his unmatched versatility. Barr recently scored Apple TV+’s comedy/drama film The Beanie Bubble, co-directed by Kristin Gore and Damian Kulash. His hallmark adaptability has led him to score a diverse roster of some of television’s biggest shows including Netflix’s mini-series Halston and Hollywood, the latter having earned Nathan an Emmy Award for Best Main Title Theme; BBC/Amazon Studios’ A Very British Scandal, for which he received an Emmy-nomination for Outstanding Music Composition For A Limited Or Anthology Series; and FX’s The Americans, which earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music. Barr received two additional Emmy nominations in the main title category for both Netflix’s Hemlock Grove and Amazon Studios/Legendary’s Carnival Row. Other notable TV and film credits include HBO’s Emmy-winning series, True Blood; Hulu's The Great; FX drama limited series The Patient; Alan Ball/Amazon Studios' coming-of-age drama Uncle Frank; the hit Amblin Entertainment/Universal Pictures family-horror film The House with a Clock in its Walls; and more.

Kristin Gore is a New York Times bestselling novelist, Emmy-nominated television writer (Saturday Night Live, Futurama), and past collaborator of David O. Russell, Bennett Miller, Jay Roach, and Spike Jonze. She was a writer on Her (Oscar winner for Best Screenplay) and Foxcatcher (Oscar nominee for Best Screenplay). Kristin is participating in this event as a director only. She is in full support of the WGA strike.

Kristin Gore and Damian Kulash are the married directing duo behind The Beanie Bubble, which combines Gore’s narrative instincts with Kulash’s process for carefully choreographing moments of joy into a crescendo of surprise. The film has the heart, depth, and nuance of Gore’s lovingly crafted characters with the structural sorcery and stunning visuals of Kulash’s videos, all in the context of one of America’s most outlandish success stories.
