Say What?!
Overview
Say What?! An Afternoon of Prose, Poetry and Provocation will feature readings from Kinsman Quarterly’s transformative 2025 anthology Black Butterfly: Voices of the African Diaspora and the inaugural Write Miami zine What Now? The event is hosted by African Diaspora Grand Prize Award Winning Author Noelle Kristina Barnes and the writers group Write Miami.
N.K. Barnes' award-winning short historical fiction "Burning or a Bullet" is one of many stories and poems by Afro-descendants featured in Black Butterfly: Voices of the African Diaspora. "The poetry and prose are arranged around the journey of a butterfly," explains Monique Franz, senior editor. "The section titled Cocoon centers readers on themes of home, family and heritage. Metamorphosis speaks to empowering transformation from trauma and abuse. Migration captures our struggle with displacement, immigration, and belonging. And finally, Pollination honors the seeds of Black struggle that have blossomed into love, invention, and art that has touched the world."
Black Butterfly is available for purchase at Roots Bookstore & Market in Miami, on Amazon and direct from the publisher.
