Event description

Description

This workshop and lecture event presented by Margot Van Sluytman and hosted by Dr. Reinekke Lengelle, Athabasca University, will focus on how writing can cultivate our engagement with the vitally important conversations on Truth, Reconcilliation, and Resilience. The event will focus on shared-humanity and personal agency. It is sure to be an inspiring event, infused by joy and possibility.

Workshop: Sawbonna: Writing the Self and Reconciliation (1:00 - 4:00 pm)

In this writing workshop, you will be invited to engage with your own vital voice. You will be inspired to dig deeply into what reconciliation and resilience mean for you. You will be guided in finding ways of expressing your needs, your understanding, your wisdom about how our shared-humanity is intricately bound together - the personal in the political. You will dance with words.

Lecture: Sawbonna: Writing the Self and Reconciliation (7:00 - 8:30 pm)

When Margot Van Sluytman sat down with Archbishop Desmond Tutu in Cape Town, SA, asking him how he had kept his faith in humanity through that country’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, his answer shocked her. Tonight, she will share his answer and so much more; including what Sawbonna is, her conversation about her vision of justice with Senator Murray Sinclair, and how each of our voices of reconciliation matter. Each and every one of us.
