Description

Nothing beats the cut and feel of a properly sharpened hand saw. In this two day class, professional saw doctor Matt Cianci will guide students through the critical steps of sharpening rip and crosscut hand saws used in woodworking. Students will learn the four functional elements of all Western saw teeth including tooth spacing, rake, set and bevel, along with the necessary tools and techniques used in sharpening. Matt will guide students through filing rip and crosscut toothed saws in detail, including the unique elements of joinery saws like dovetail and carcase saws as well as full size handsaws used for larger scale dimensioning cuts.

Class fee is $320 which includes a saw filing template that will serve as a model for each student to follow while learning to sharpen rip and crosscut teeth. Saw vises will be provided for each student.

Required Tool List:
One rip hand saw and one crosscut hand saw
Saw set- pistol grip style is best (Stanley 42x, Eclipse 77, Somax)

Matt Cianci is a professional saw doctor specializing in the sharpening and repair of hand saws for woodworking and has done so since 2010. He offers sharpening, repair, and restoration of hand saws through his website, TheSawWright.com, and teaches saw sharpening and saw making classes at several woodworking schools across New England. Matt has published two instructional DVDs with Popular Woodworking including, "Build Your Own Backsaw" and "Super-Tune A Backsaw," and written several magazine articles for various woodworking publications. He is also writing a book on saw sharpening for Lost Art Press.
