• Sunday, March 22 | 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM (Final Simulation Exercise) Location for the final simulation will be Station 52, at 52 Union St. San Rafael, Ca 94901

About the Program: Learn how to prepare your community when disaster strikes! The San Rafael Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is sponsored by the San Rafael Fire Department and coordinated by the Office of Emergency Services. This comprehensive training program prepares volunteers to respond effectively during emergencies and disasters.

Training Overview: The CERT Basic Training is a comprehensive 20-hour course that combines classroom instruction with hands-on exercises. Training concludes with a final disaster simulation drill where you'll apply all the skills you've learned in a realistic emergency scenario.

What You'll Learn: CERT teams are trained in basic emergency response procedures that can save lives and protect your community, including:

• Conducting an initial size-up of the situation in your immediate area
• Reducing immediate dangers by turning off utilities, suppressing small fires, and evacuating hazardous areas
• Performing immediate medical triage and basic treatment of injuries
• Assessing structural integrity and performing light search and rescue
• Collecting and recording vital information to be relayed to professional responders on damage, victims, and actions taken or resources needed
• Providing leadership to untrained volunteers
