No, attendance is completely optional! You're more than welcome to enjoy a self-led hike whenever it's most convenient for you. The ranger-led hikes are a great opportunity to learn more about the area, but they're not required.

Ho do I get my free SAMO 2025 Trail Challenge shirt?

How do I get my SAMO 2025 Trail Challenge medal?

Accepted Answer

To earn your SAMO 2025 Trail Challenge medal, you must complete all 8 hikes and submit your log sheet. Be sure to turn in your completed logs by April 12, 2026 to receive an official SAMO Trail Challenge medal to celebrate. Similarly to the shirt, you can pick it up or it can be mailed to you.

Will each hike be led by the same Ranger?

No, every hike will be a new adventure and that includes your guide! Each hike will be led by a different ranger, and every ranger brings their own stories, and skills to the trail. So get ready to meet a whole crew of nature-loving experts!

What should I bring to the hike?

Accepted Answer

Come ready for adventure and don’t forget the essentials! Pack water to stay hydrated, snacks to keep your energy up, and dress in layers. And don’t forget whatever you bring in, be sure to pack it back out. That includes wrappers, snack bags, and anything else that came along for the ride.

Can I bring my dog on the hike?

Accepted Answer

While dogs are allowed on NPS property, they are not permitted on two of our hikes—King Gillette Ranch and Rancho Sierra Vista—as these trails enter MRCA and State Parks land, where dogs are restricted. Dogs are welcome on all other trails but must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet.
