Join the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) at the American Nurses Association for its 2017 MFP Conference and Institute (MFPCAI) focused on“Eliminating Mental Health and Substance Use Disparities through Leadership, Advocacy, and Community Engagement.” This year we expect to bring together up to 100 participants including more than 40 current MFP doctoral and master’s Fellows from ANA and the six other SAMHSA MFP Programs and their leadership, MFP Alumni, SAMHSA leadership, ANA President and Board members, local minority and other nursing organization’s leadership and stakeholders of the MFP at ANA. The 2017 MFPCAI will feature keynote addresses, interactive panels, advocacy on Capitol Hill, community engagement and a day-long hands-on manuscript writing for a refereed journal workshop lead by some of the industry’s leading mental health and substance use experts.

The MFPCAI Learning Objectives Include:

Discussions around the essential foundations for leadership, health policy and advocacy and community engagement
Describing key strategies and actions of advocacy to apply in a scheduled visit to members of Congress
Demonstrating skills for writing data-based research and evidence-based clinical manuscripts focused on behavioral health issues and minority populations in referred journals
Describing how behavioral health issues impact the LGBTQI youth population
Identifying new or improving professional development and statistical development training
