Heritage SA, part of Department for Environment and Water and the City of Adelaide are coordinating a one day workshop relating to the management and identification of salt damp. Facilitated by David Young OAM, it will be held over one full day on 7 Novemeber at the Old Adelaide Gaol.
The day will commence with a guided tour through the Old Adelaide Gaol. The workshop will be a combination of seminar and "show and tell" learning across the site.
The Salt Damp workshop will cover:
• Understanding salt attack and rising damp
• Good “housekeeping” is fundamental
• Managing mild damp with sacrificial treatments
• How to get the salt out
• Inserting damp-proof courses (DPCs)
• Issues with early cavity walls
• Inserting DPCs in internal walls
• Out of sight: out of mind – below the timber floor
• Repairing plasters and renders
• Repainting with breathable coatings
The session will be inclusive of morning tea/coffee, lunch and afternoon tea/coffee on the day (please advise of dietaries) and related booklet.
Those registering as CPD, the workshop is worth 3 formal CPD points – in accordance with the Architectural Practice Act 2009 (SA).
