About this event

College Safety Starts With You.

Every year, 1 in 5 college women experience sexual assault, and over 10,000 students face robbery or aggravated assault. College campuses are filled with opportunity — but also real risks. Whether you’re living in a dorm, commuting, or heading to parties, this workshop will give you practical skills to stay aware, assertive, and prepared.

This 2-hour workshop is built on the SABRE College Safety curriculum, trusted by campus police and instructors nationwide. We’ll cover how to spot danger early, de-escalate with confidence, and — if needed — physically respond with simple, effective self-defense tools.

You’ll also learn how to properly use pepper gel and personal safety alarms, including practice with SABRE’s inert (non-active) training sprays.

✅ What You’ll Learn:

  • How to recognize potentially dangerous situations on campus
  • Verbal strategies for boundary setting and de-escalation
  • Basic self-defense movement and pad striking
  • How to respond to an active assailant
  • Situational awareness in dorms, social events, public transit, etc.
  • Hands-on pepper spray training (must be 18+)

🧠 What to Expect:

  • 60 min classroom-style discussion & scenarios
  • 60 min hands-on practice with drills and pads
  • Includes 3 SABRE practice sprays and certification

🎓 Who Should Attend:

  • College students (new or returning)
  • High school seniors preparing for college
  • Women, men, and non-binary students — all experience levels welcome

💲 Cost:

  • $50 per person
  • Must be 18+ for pepper spray certification

Organized by

2-hour Self Defense Violence Prevention Workshop. UNDERSTANDING WHAT SELF DEFENSE IS AND ISN'T. Ages 13 and up

40 min Awareness Talk on Prevention, the rest of the workshop will be on Verbal and Physical Strategies. Verbal skills will involve hands on training and role playing. Physical strategies will include basic striking skills with the intention of stopping someone from hurting you. We will be going over worse case scenarios; someone is trying to take your life and you have to defend yourself. This 2-hour workshop is intended to help you have a better understanding of what self-defense is and isn't. We will cover confrontation from the front and someone attacking you from your backside.

Due to being only a two-hour workshop. we now offer a part two public workshop for those interested in more training/practice. Part two will cover additional practice time with scenarios from part one and also ground strategies along with someone that has a knife/gun. In order to participate in Part 2, you must have completed a Part 1 workshop.
