Erosion & Sediment Control Inspector Course (DEQ-Approved)
Oregon DEQ 1200-C and 1200-CN permits require each project to designate a certified Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) Inspector. This DEQ-approved course fulfills that requirement and equips participants with the essential knowledge to apply for permits, develop ESC plans, and oversee the installation and inspection of control measures.
What You’ll Learn This 6.5-hour training covers the full scope of erosion and sediment control essentials, including:
- History and implementation of stormwater regulations
- Environmental impacts of stormwater runoff
- Fundamentals of erosion and sedimentation
- 1200-C NPDES permit application process and requirements
- ESC plan development and inspector responsibilities
- Common best management practices (BMPs)
Course Format
- Classroom instruction
- Field-based skills demonstration
- Certification exam (80% passing score required)
Upon successful completion, participants will receive an RVSS ESC Inspector Certification, valid for 3 years.

- Understand erosion and sedimentation processes and impacts
- Identify conditions that may lead to stormwater compliance issues
- Navigate DEQ and RVSS permitting procedures
- Select and implement BMPs to maintain compliance with 1200-C/CN permits

- Conduct site inspections and document findings
- Maintain logbooks and required permit documentation
