Who can take a tufting class?

All of our workshops are beginner friendly and inclusive. I am invested in dismantling any barriers to participation; I’ve worked with differently abled folks such as those with developmental delays and visual impairments. If for any reason this craft feels inaccessible to you, let’s talk!

How do I choose my rug design?

Accepted Answer

Choose a simple design with solid colors and solid lines. If you would like some guidance, e-mail me at jordan@floorfetish.net - I can send you a guidelines sheet and/or help you choose a design that works best for you.

What should I do after purchasing my ticket?

How big will my rug be?

Accepted Answer

Medium sized frames are 28”x28”. Rug size will vary based on the aspect ratio of your design, but we will make it as large as we can given the space on the frame. If you’d like a rug that fits a different frame size, I offer small or large sized class/frames at different price points.

How do I choose colors?

I recommend limiting your palette selection to 5 colors at most. Due to the nature of yarn, we have a limited selection of color options. Please know there may not be the exact color you are wanting. We will always find the closest match possible.

Question 6

When do I get to take my rug home?

Accepted Answer

After your tufting class, I will glue and shear your rug and return it to you at a later date (turn around time is generally 1 week).

How long do classes last?

Classes will flow at your own pace and typically last 2-5 hours depending on the size of frame you chose, the level of detail in your design, and how quickly you work.

What if I get hungry?

I will have some light snacks and beverages available, if you have strict dietary restrictions please bring food with you. There is a Thai food cart located next door, as well as other wonderful restaurants in the neighborhood should you need more.

What if I have noise sensitivities?

Feel free to bring ear plugs or headphones if you are sensitive to sound, the machines are not very loud but may be close to your face.

What are the physical requirements?

Tufting is a fairly physical activity, so it is best to pace yourself and take a break when needed. Please let me know if you have an existing injury or conditions that may cause pain with repetitive motions or lifting 3-5 lbs for extended periods of time. I will make my best efforts to accommodate.

What if I want to carve my own rug?

We can schedule a discounted, follow up class that focuses on finishing rugs (including sheeting, gluing, backing, etc).

How can I get my finalized rug if I won’t be in town after class?

Accepted Answer

I can ship your rug to you for an additional shipping cost.
