Rufus Estes: Good Things to Eat
Overview
Step aboard for an evening that honors Rufus Estes, one of America’s first celebrity chefs and a former Pullman Porter who rose from slavery to serve presidents, dignitaries, and industrialists aboard luxury railcars.
Through a four-course tasting menu with wine pairings, the Black Pot Supper Club celebrates Estes’ 1911 cookbook Good Things to Eat and the untold story of the Pullman Porters—Black men whose service and skill helped define an era of refinement and hospitality.
Each course reimagines the elegance of dining on the rails, weaving food, history, and narrative together for a culinary journey through perseverance, craftsmanship, and pride.
