ROUND POLE Framing ~ The Basics

This is an opportunity to enjoy being in a beautiful wooded 50 acre setting and learn the principles of round pole construction and experience some basic hands-on techniques.

Tour the thatched roofs & round pole structures on site. then harvest wood, and use hand tools to create a small team project using several types of notching, make a wooden mallet to take home. You will be given complimentary e-handouts via google docs that will include basic notches and simple designs! No experience necessary. Bring a lunch & dress for working indoors and being outdoors as well! (You can bring your own chisels if you wish!)

Instructor: Deanne Bednar is the Illustrator of the Hand-Sculpted House, Natural Plaster Book & The Cobbers' Companion. She has taught natural building skills since 2003. She has successfully designed and co-built several small round pole structures on site using traditional hand techniques to notch and lash.

January 17 & 18, 2026 9:30 a– 5p both days.

Some Overnight accommodations available Fri, Sat, Sun for $20 per night, includes Sat. supper and Sun. breakfast .
