Roots To Blossom: Intergenerational Family Archive Project-1 Book 1 Broward
Overview
Gather your family archive of photos, letters and mementos for an intergenerational discussion about our connections with seeds, planting, and gardens. Enter the AARLCC archive offices and join Broward County Library staff Dr. Ramona La Roche and Erin Purdy to digitize your family history and identify our community bonds through nature, and leave a legacy through your own digital archive. Attendees will receive a short tour of the archives at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center.
One Book One Broward 2026
Start the New Year READING with Broward County Libraries annual initiative One Book One Broward (OBOB). Join all who live, learn, work and play in Broward County from January 1 to February 28, 2026 to build deeper connections through a single book community read. This year’s theme Our Nature: How Our Physical Environment Can Lead Us to Seek Hope, Courage, and Connection will be guided by the matrilinear storytelling in the novel “The Seed Keeper” by Diane Wilson and the youth companion book “The First Blade of Sweetgrass” by Suzanne Greenlaw and Gabriel Frey. From Sawgrass to Seagrass, residents and visitors will participate in beach side, board walk, and trail head book discussions, presentations, programs, workshops and a festival kick-off at ArtLit on January 10. This initiative will provide human connection, cultural heritage preservation, and diverse perspectives that enable deeper understanding of our community while celebrating reading in South-Florida’s great outdoors.
Timelines and characters in book The Seed Keeper are tied together in the conclusion of the novel. Interwoven stories reflect on intergenerational lived experience and the role that the past plays in the present and future.
One Book One Broward is supported by the Broward Public Library Foundation.
