Take a tour of Duke Gardens while we share & learn about the impacts of climate change and the ways people are taking action to protect their communities and environment, both to address problems they’re already experiencing and stop new ones from occurring. We’ll look at examples of projects here in the garden and discuss other local & global actions with diverse approaches to address their specific contexts & needs. You’ll spend time reflecting on and sharing your connections to this work, individually and together as a group, to build our collective work for a healthy community.

This program is free, but registration is required in order to maintain our group size.

Open to all:

This program aimed at all members of the Duke community: undergraduate and graduate & professional students, staff, and faculty in both the university and health system. Teen & adult community members from beyond Duke are also welcome to attend.

Accessibility & what to bring:

This program will take place entirely outside and includes moving over gravel, mulch, or mowed grass with some uneven areas and inclines. We will alternate moving from one location to another with pausing for an activity or conversation; we will pause at locations that provide seating for at least 3 people on a bench (which may not have a back or arms), and seating or standing room for the rest on the ground on mowed grass or stone. You may bring your own chair if needed.

Come prepared for the weather (for example: layers, sun protection, rain jacket or umbrella, water, snacks, shoes comfortable for walking). You may also want bug protection, like long & loose-fitting layers or bug spray.

The program will be a mix of listening to the facilitator, individual observation & reflection, and small & large group conversations. You are welcome to participate in all aspects however works best for you while allowing others to participate as well.
