Rooted in the Word: Basic Bible Study Principles for Deep Roots

By Ancient Paths Discipleship, Dr. Brandee Loftis

Overview

Do you really want to understand the Bible? Do you long for more in your Christian life, and to hear God personally? This class is for you!

In a world where truth shifts with cultural trends, there is truth that never changes. It is the truth of the Bible. However, many believers struggle to understand the Bible and apply it to their lives. We know there is more than what we are experiencing, yet we cannot seem to find it or may not even know what it is we are looking for. Our souls are not experiencing the rest Jesus promised (Matthew 11:28-30).

These problems are what Rooted in the Word: Basic Bible Study Principles for Deep Roots is designed to help you overcome! We will learn that God is waiting to speak to us personally through the Bible, and not just speak, but give us personal direction for our lives and reveal mysteries He has hidden waiting for us to discover! When we approach the Bible as it was intended, using the original language and culture, we will find ourselves rooted and grounded in truth that does not change with cultural beliefs. We will grow in intimacy with God, developing a deep relationship with Him where our souls can find rest. And we will find ourselves in awe of what lies beneath the surface, confirming not only God's existence but also the reality of Jesus Christ and His salvation for us.

In this class, you will learn:

  • How does the parable of the sower in Matthew 13 reveal our need to be deeply rooted in the Word of God?
  • What is the church?
  • The dynamic of the covenantal relationship we enter with God upon salvation. To understand this relationship, we must understand what the Bible is and learn how to let God speak to us personally through the Scriptures.
  • Why is it important to read the Bible in the cultural and historical context in which it was written? How do our Western mindsets affect our interpretation of the Bible?
  • What is secular humanism, and how has it impacted the modern church?
  • What was the mindset of the original Hebrew authors of the Bible? How did they perceive the world and God?
  • What happened at the fall, and how does that affect how we read and interpret the Bible?
  • What is hermeneutics? How did the writers of the Bible approach Biblical interpretation?
  • What are some modern Bible study tools we have available to us that help us go deeper in our Bible Study?
  • How to dissect Bible verses down to the original Greek and Hebrew languages and Hebrew letters using the Hebrew Alphabet (Aleph-Bet) Study Guide.
  • Hidden mysteries in the Word to understand the character of God and the enemy so we can live in victory.

You will need to bring a laptop, tablet, or phone with you to class as we walk through step-by-step demonstrations of apps and websites to help you study the original languages of the Bible.
