Rooted Flow
Overview
Ahmari Jaila is a movement artist, cultural storyteller, and the heart behind Rooted Flow. Her dance journey began in the lineage of her own family, under the care and creativity of her aunt, Lela Jones, and was further shaped by the mentorship of renowned movement practitioner Nia Love. She later took the stage as part of an Omo Kulu Mele production, guided by the visionary Zakiya Cornish, deepening her connection to traditional African performance and ritual.
Ahmari’s work lives at the intersection of embodied memory, sensuality, and ancestral rhythm. She has created her own dance ensemble and collaborated with powerful artists such as Teylor Parks, across Tallahassee’s underground arts scene, building spaces for raw expression, sacred movement, and storytelling through the body. Her passion has always been embodied movement not just as art, but as liberation.
