I'm not sure if I'll want to share what I write. Is this ok?

Accepted Answer

You're not alone. This is not an uncommon thought when joining a new group. Early on most participants find that a sense of community & togetherness develops, building an environment where sharing becomes more comfortable.  Everyone is always  invited to share but never obliged.

Question 4

What exactly does "creative of color" mean?

Accepted Answer

Glad you asked! Working from the terms: People of Color (POC) and BIPOC (Black & Indigenous & People of Color) + inclusivity of all genders and gender identities + inclusivity of all creatives, not just 'writers'...viola - Creatives-of-Color.

Question 5

Does the workshop develop elements of writing like plot, character, etc?

Accepted Answer

Not directly. This is a GENERATIVE writing workshop. Our primary goal is to get ideas out of our heads and on to paper. Using prompts to generate new ideas we create first/rough drafts.  At times a prompt may focus on an element of writing, but the goal is always idea/story stimulation and creation.

Can I record the workshop? / Will the workshop be recorded?

No. Recording of any portion of the workshop by anyone is strictly prohibited.

I'm looking to workshop a piece I've already written. Can I do that with Illuminating Our Voices?

Absolutely. In addition to the 90 minute generative writing workshops, Illuminating Our Voices offers longer workshops for writers looking for more in depth reads and feedback. Please send an email regarding your specific interest.
