Ribbon Cutting for the Sate Route 84/I-680 Interchange Improvement Project

The Alameda County Transportation Commission (Alameda CTC) and California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) invite you to a ribbon cutting celebrating the completion of the State Route 84 (SR-84) Expressway Modernization and the State Route 84/Interstate 680 (I-680) Interchange Improvement Project! The event will be hosted on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 10:00 am. Please RSVP!

The ribbon cutting will be held near Vallecitos Road and State Route 84 in Sunol, west of the Sunol Paintball Outdoor Park. From State Route 84, turn onto Vallecitos Road. Street parking will be available. GPS coordinates for navigation are 37.5977° N, 121.8549° W. Use this Google Map link to get personalized directions. Carpooling is strongly encouraged. Ribbon cutting will be held under most weather conditions, including rain.

More About the Project

The SR- 84 Expressway Modernization conformed SR-84 to expressway standards between south of Ruby Hill Drive and the I-680 interchange in southern Alameda County by:

• Modifying SR-84 to accommodate one additional lane in each direction.
• Implementing additional improvements to reduce weaving/merging conflicts and help address the additional traffic demand.

The SR-84/I-680 Interchange Improvements improved operations by:

• Modifying ramps.
• Extending the existing southbound I-680 high occupancy vehicle/express lane northward by ~2 miles.

The project also provides the following benefits:

• Improves regional connectivity.
• Improves interregional connectivity.
• Relieves congestion.
• Improves safety.
