The complex of the church and monastery of San Piyer in Galata, built progressively over the centuries through the aggregation of independent buildings, is a place that embodies a layered history, rich in architectural and cultural significance. However, the lack of covered spaces connecting the different buildings currently limits the possibilities for using the complex, which could benefit from solutions offering shelter from the sun and rain, thus improving its flexibility of use in relation to the Mediterranean climate.
The one day workshop, led by architect and monk Michele Badino and architect Jose M. Garcia Torres, aims to offer students an experience of analysis and design that combines theory and practical experimentation. The spaces of the complex will be observed, interpreted and rethought considering their potential, through an open and shared design process, which will find expression in drawings and models.
The initiative, which is free and limited in number, is organised in collaboration with Dost-i İstanbul, Initiatives Depo Pergamon and Meydan Architecture + Design.
Pre-registration is required to participate.
