About this event

CRLP has a longstanding tradition of providing professional development that helps teachers meet the needs of English Learners. Our teacher leaders understand the everyday challenges of providing rigorous academic language and literacy instruction for English Learners. We provide teachers with opportunities to deepen their content knowledge and expand their repertoire of teaching strategies. The RCC program can help any educator deepen their skills in reading comprehension instruction.

Join the CRLP San Diego Region for a THREE day in person session of professional learning that is designed to help educators understand how CRLP Results for Reading Comprehension can support teachers in K-6 classrooms by providing instructional routines that can be used with any curriculum to link holistic reading comprehension instruction to grade-level text and diverse literature, through the lens of an assets-based pedagogy.

In this institute we will focus on the central role that reading comprehension plays in developing academic literacy by guiding teachers in creatively thinking about and choosing appropriate strategies and scaffolds for comprehension of challenging texts.

CRLP Results for Reading Comprehension provides teachers with routines for linking holistic reading comprehension instruction to grade-level text and diverse literature through the lens of an assets-based pedagogy. Results for Reading Comprehension supports teachers in designing effective instruction to help their students make meaning from complex grade-level text, whether read aloud to them or read by them with instructional support, and to use evidence from the text to demonstrate their comprehension. Lesson planning includes a 10-Step Core Routine for building content knowledge and guiding teachers in creatively thinking about and choosing appropriate strategies and scaffolds for comprehension of challenging texts, following a general instructional sequence for before, during, and after reading.
