About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Clarice James founder & executive director of M.I.R.A. Resources joins us in a conversation about supporting the undocumented through crisis and exploitation. Aiming to build structures filled with empathy and understanding in order to cultivate greater resilience.

Together we aim to:

Enhance Understanding of Immigration Crisis: Equip social workers with comprehensive knowledge about the current immigration crisis, including its causes, impacts on individuals and families, and the specific challenges faced by undocumented immigrants.

Identify and Address Trafficking Amongst the Undocumented: Train social workers to recognize signs of human trafficking among undocumented individuals, understand the unique vulnerabilities of this population, and implement appropriate interventions and support mechanisms.

Promote Cultural Humility and Empathy: Foster a deep sense of cultural humility and empathy among social workers by providing tools and strategies to understand and respect the diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences of their clients.

Develop Trauma-Informed Care Practices: Teach social workers to apply trauma-informed care principles when working with immigrants and trafficking survivors, ensuring that their approach is sensitive to the trauma these individuals may have experienced.

Strengthen Community Support Networks: Encourage social workers to build and strengthen community support networks that can provide holistic and sustainable support to immigrants and trafficking survivors, including legal, medical, and psychological services.
