Event description

Description

Are you your family’s resident genealogist? Volunteer custodian of church records? Neighborhood historian? If you have an interest in maintaining and preserving history that doesn’t often show up in official historical narratives, join us for this special community archives workshop. Led by archivist and arts advocate Whitney P. Lopez, participants will learn to use archivists’ tools to approach their personal and community histories.

Please note: this workshop was originally scheduled to be facilitated by Dr. Kevin Browne. Dr. Browne is unable to make it, but we're very excited about new facilitator Whitney Lopez, and we hope you'll still join us.

Whitney Lopez is a community archivist, arts advocate, and consultant based in Philadelphia, PA. They are currently the project archivist for the Audience Embedded project at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. Lopez's work in archive spaces spans small community nonprofits, churches, private homes, and universities, including extensive work at Bryn Mawr College, Haverford College, LaSalle University, and the University of Pennsylvania. They are currently working on an archival ethnography based on archival alumnae papers at Bryn Mawr College.
