Remembering Partition: Violence, Memory and Historical Reflection

Dr. Pandey will examine the violence that accompanied the 1947 Partition of British India into the independent states of India and Pakistan. Drawing on his seminal work Remembering Partition: Violence, Nationalism and History in India, Dr. Pandey explores how the meaning and memory of Partition have varied across communities, generations, and regions. His lecture will also reflect on the broader colonial context that shaped the circumstances of Partition and contributed to the upheavals that followed.
