The U.S. Department of Education requires that all distance education courses for which students may use federal financial aid (e.g. Pell Grant) include regular and substantive interaction between the students and instructor(s). RSI activities are initiated by the instructor, frequent and consistent, and focused on the course. RSI can also include inclusive teaching practices to support all learners. In November 2021, the University Senate passed the Georgia State University policy on Regular and Substantive Interaction in Online Courses.

In this workshop you will learn more about RSI including how to:

Recognize the characteristics of RSI activities
Identify assessment tools/resources
Determine strategies for incorporating and enhancing RSI activities in your class
Identify what you can do now with your current courses to enhance RSI

You may already be using many RSI activities in your online courses and will have the chance to self-review your courses and learn about new RSI activities.
