Workshop: Regarding (and Respecting) your Garden Weeds
Saturday, November 1st, 10am - 12pm (PST)
Instructor: J.R. Blair
This IN-PERSON WORKSHOP will be hosted at Alemany Farm.
What exactly is a weed and how do you identify them in your own garden and yard? What makes certain plants so successful ("weedy") in spite of the local climate, competition with other plants, and our seemingly endless efforts to control them? How can we effectively control weeds in our Bay Area gardens in a safe, non-toxic way? This workshop will be geared towards the weeds of the San Francisco Peninsula, but much of the information will be applicable to other parts of California and beyond.
J.R. Blair has been volunteering at Alemany Farm since 2021, primarily controlling certain pernicious weeds. Before his retirement in 2020, he was a lecturer of Biology at San Francisco State University, mainly teaching botany classes. He has been controlling weeds at his house in San Mateo County for over 30 years, seemingly a lifelong endeavor.
