The Red Room Project:
(theredroomproject.com)
A Virtual Reality Documentary (directed by Adele Ray) and Live Immersive Experience (with artist, Shino Smoke.)
The Red Room Project VR DOC (RT: 5 min)
The Red Room Project is an artist portrait and 360 VR music documentary following the evolution of Oakland-based artist, Shino Smoke who has matured in his craft after migrating from his home in Sacramento to the artist enclave of Oakland. Shino finds inspiration, connectedness, and healing in his Red Room from the trauma of violence and tragedies in his artist community like the Ghost Ship Fire in Oakland.
The 360 immersive experience film will be viewed at the "The Room Room Project: VR Pop Up and Live Performance". A collaboration with Ina Adele Ray, Shino Smoke, and Tatu Vision. The idea sparked for the project when Adele complimented Shane on his red dreadlocks at the office/galler space they both work at. He explained to her that he was going through a "red" phase in his art and he described to her this "Red Room" where he created his music and collaborates with other artists. Adele decided to use 360 video for this project because the "space" was just as much a "character" in telling Shino's story.
In partnership with media producer and DP, Noam Eshel, Adele decided to venture into the world of 360 video. She approached the project int he typical 2D documentary filmmaking fashion, by conducting a pre-interview with Shino. She asked him questions about his "Red Room", his art, and how he got into music and hist motivations, etc. This VR story takes us beyond his "Red Room" from Sacramentro to a saloon in downtown Oakland (at one of his shows) to the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland.
