Flugtag challenges wacky engineers and fearless pilots to fulfill their dream of flying. First they construct their flying machine. Then they take a leap of faith. Or, as is more often the case, plunge into the waters below.

  • There will be food and beverage vendors stationed around the event site.
  • The event is open seating so get there early to reserve a spot!
  • No smoking allowed.
  • ADA viewing areas will be on site. People with impairments can view from these areas, along with one additional guest.
  • We are hoping for a beautiful summer day, but please be sure to check weather conditions and dress accordingly, including plenty of sunscreen.
  • Free water stations will be onsite for refilling water bottles, or resealable aluminum water bottles which can be purchased onsite from concessions.

Where and when will the event take place?

Red Bull Flugtag will take place in Yeatman’s Cove Park, Cincinnati on August 9, 2025. Gates open at 12 p.m. (waters will be open for boats all day) with opening ceremonies starting at 1 p.m. Final flight will take off about 3:45pm and will be immediately followed by an Awards Ceremony

Can it be watched from your boat?

Absolutely! For public safety, be advised that the United States Coast Guard, and local authorities, will be closing the Ohio River from 12pm – 5pm on Saturday, August 9th. If you’d like to view Red Bull Flugtag from your boat on the water. You’ll need to enter the area prior to 12pm.

How do I get to Red Bull Flugtag by WALKING?

If you are staying in Downtown Cincinnati or across the bridge in Newport, Kentucky, you can walk to Sawyer Point and Yeatman’s Cove in less than 20 minutes from most major hotels and garages.

How do I get to Red Bull Flugtag by BUS?

If you are staying in Downtown Cincinnati, hop on Metro Route 1 or 85 and get off at Nuxhall Way at Merhing Way. If you are staying in Newport, Kentucky, hop on the TANK Southbank Shuttle and get off at Taylor-Southgate & East Pete Rose Way. Please check bus schedules for hours of operation.

What does Flugtag mean?

Flugtag, pronounced “FLOOG-TOG,” means “flying day” in German.

What exactly is Red Bull Flugtag?

Teams of up to five people have worked for months building homemade, human-powered flying machines which one person pilots off of an elevated flight deck, through the air and into a body of water. Teams are judged based on three criteria – flight distance, creativity and showmanship.

What do the planes typically look like?

Flying machines range from realistic plane replicas to anything the imagination can conjure up. To gain more showmanship points, participants often wear outrageous costumes, act out skits, and create their own music soundtracks for the flight.

What are the rules?

All crafts must be human-powered – no engines or external energy sources allowed. Prefabricated crafts will not be accepted. Each craft must be less than 22-feet wide and not more than 400 lbs. (including the pilot), and craft pilots must be at least 18 years old.

How many Red Bull Flugtags have been produced?

Red Bull has produced more than 100 Flugtags around the world — from Rome to Los Angeles. The first Red Bull Flugtag took place in 1991 in Vienna, Austria, as the brainchild of Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz.

When was the first Red Bull Flugtag produced in the United States?

The first U.S. Red Bull Flugtag was produced in October 2002 in San Francisco.
