Recycle for Greater Manchester Open Day
Join us at the Visitor Centre in Wythenshawe for a fun-filled morning of learning about recycling and sustainability. Have a tour of our Materials Recovery Facility and see your recycling in action, ask all your burning questions about recycling in Greater Manchester, and discover how you can make a difference in your community.There is even a craft actvity at the end for any children who come along (Adults can join in too if they want). This in-person event is a great opportunity to meet like-minded individuals and learn more about the importance of recycling and reducing our waste. Don't miss out on this exciting event!
Please note this event is only available to Greater Manchester Residents (excluding Wigan) and any attendees must be at least 7 years-old.
Whether you are an individual, family or group of friends book to join a group guided tour of the Materials Recover Facility to explore how your mixed recycling across Greater Manchester gets separated before being sent off and recycled.
Tours are led by one of our Education Officers and include the opportunity to go behind the scenes to see the seperating process involved in recycling, understand how wrong items can cause issues,and discuss how the recycling can benefit the environment and our community in Greater Manchester.
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A TWO HOUR TOUR AND SESSION NOT A DROP IN EVENT
ClothingAs this is an industrial site, legs must also be covered preferably by trousers but leggings or similar are acceptable.Good strong sensible shoes/walking boots/trainers are recommended (no heels or open toe shoes).Please note half of the visit is in the Materials Recovery Facility which can get very cold in the winter months so please dress warmly.High Visibility vest, gloves, saftey glasses, helmets and hearing equipment will be provided as necessary.Anyone unsuitably dressed will not be allowed on the site tour.

Yes the Visitor Centre is wheelchair accessible and we can arrange an alternate route for the Material Recovery Facility tour- please get in touch before before to ensure we can accommodate you.
Yes we railings at front of the site to lock up a few bikes
By Bus – the 43 and 103 stop on Leestone Road By Train – the closest train is Gately . By car – parking on site is free, there is a visitor car park on the right as soon as you entre the site.
