Description

SAMHSA’s Bringing Recovery Supports to Scale Technical Assistance Center Strategy (BRSS TACS) invites you to join national experts in a conversation about the assistance that treatment and support providers, including peer-run and recovery community organizations, can provide to individuals in recovery from serious mental illness (SMI) or substance use disorders (SUD) to help identify and pursue their educational goals.

Presenters will discuss ways to support individuals as they consider educational options and accessing resources, and outline examples of recovery support services that compliment care and are available for those individuals already in school.

This event supports critical Departmental and agency priorities to improve the lives of individuals with SMI and SUD. For example, SAMHSA leads the activities of the Interdepartmental Serious Mental Illness Coordinating Committee (ISMICC), which focuses on ways to improve the lives of individuals living with serious mental illness and their families, including a focus on increasing access to supportive services, such as supported education. Another example is the 2018 Surgeon General’s Report, Facing Addiction in America: The Surgeon General’s Report on Alcohol, Drugs and Health, which highlights the value of collegiate recovery programs for their recovery-supportive environments and peer engagement with other students in recovery.

Join us for this free, interactive virtual event, moderated by BRSS TACS Deputy Director Steven Samra.

Presenters:

Kristen Harper, Recovery Support Specialist, Center for Social Innovation

Anna Trevino, Assistant Director, Texas Tech University Center for Collegiate Recovery Communities (CCRC)

Jeremy Countryman, Program Director, CAFÉ TA Center (CAFÉ TAC)
