TBIRA is LAUNCHING its 2025 National "TBI Awareness 'White Cane' Campaign.
Our Goal is to bring AWARENESS that the TBI survivor has slow "information processing," they often need HELP in public. We know when we see a “White Cane” the person is BLIND. They are unable to see. They are disabled. We are taught by our Mothers to HELP the disabled person. We don’t kick the “white cane” of a blind person. We don’t trip them when they try and walk down the street. We don’t steal their packages, because they can’t see us coming.
Learning from our parent, TBIRA is asking you to HELP the TBI Survivor with their task: “going somewhere”, “finding an office”, “choosing something to buy.“ Don’t CALL the security guard or police. We are asking the public to "PROTECT INTELLECT". Don't be the person who gives a TBI Survivor a Criminal Record.
Traumatic brain injury is the only disability a person can recover from. Thanks to the brain's neuroplasticity, neurons and networks can grow around the injured areas. These new pathways take over lost functions, and enable survivors to regain their abilities. While this is good news, It takes 5-15 years to heal the neural network. Recovery is slow.
The path to the "DEATH SPIRAL" is over that healing period of 5-15 years, many TBI Survivors have been arrested for petty crimes. This criminal record prevents employment, promotion, and security clearance for a formerly sensitive career. With their future gone - many commit SUICIDE. ...All because their TBI NORMAL was seen as "loitering", "trespassing","obstructing justice", "disorderly conduct". Often the original complaint comes from YOU - the general public.
So severe is this problem that a National Police officers, & 1st Responders Trainin is required to understand the TBI behavior.
