Raspberry Pi Youth Coding Camp
Event Location: Grand Valley State University
Join us for an exciting, hands-on coding experience at the Raspberry Pi Youth Coding Camp! Designed for students ages 11–14, this 5-hour class introduces campers to real-world computing through engaging, interactive stations using Raspberry Pi devices. Students will rotate through a variety of STEM activities in small groups, learning coding and hardware skills while building confidence and curiosity.
Core topics include:
- Turing Tumble: Discover how computers work using this mechanical logic game
- Turtle Coding: Learn programming concepts by drawing with Python
- Sense HAT Coding: Explore sensors, LED displays, and environmental data
- Breadboard Projects: Experiment with basic circuits and components
- Drone Coding: Program drones and test obstacle course challenges
Additional activities may include:
- GoPiGo robot navigation and object detection
- Minecraft server configuration and gameplay coding
- Python with Jupyter Notebooks
- Unity game development
- IoT and API integrations with smart devices
- Benchmarking Raspberry Pi performance
- Infrared signal programming
