Radically Imagining Tatreez: A Guided Lineage Circle
Overview
What does tatreez have to do with radical imagination?
Everything.
Tatreez is an ancestral technology of memory, resistance, and worldbuilding. It holds the stories of those who came before us — and the possibilities we are here to stitch into being.
But in a world that routinizes urgency, fragmentation, and overwhelm, it can feel hard to slow down enough to hear the wisdom that wants to move through us.
This gathering is an invitation to return to that wisdom.
For one hour, we’ll explore radical imagination through the lens of lineage, stitching, and embodied presence. We’ll meditate, stitch, and reflect together — connecting with our ancestors, our descendants, and the future worlds they are calling us to help create.
This session is a collaboration between Lina’s Thobe and the School of Radical Imagination. It is both a ritual space and a portal — a taste of what it can feel like to learn in community, in depth, and in relationship.
Because tatreez is not just an art form. It is both teacher and pedagogy. It is a practice of imagining otherwise.
In this guided session, you will:
✨ Slow down and ground yourself through an intergenerational meditation
✨ Connect to the wisdom of your lineage through sensation, breath, and imagery
✨ Stitch in community while exploring a reflective prompt around inheritance and offering
✨ Experience tatreez as a pathway into liberation, memory, and collective imagination
✨ Feel the power of learning that centers embodiment, story, and relationship
You do not need tatreez experience to participate.Bring a stitching project, a journal, or simply your presence.
Why this session? Why now?
Because imagination is a muscle — and one that our ancestors exercised through needle, thread, and story.
Because so many people in the tatreez world are longing for a deeper way to learn:
Not just techniques, but meaning.
Not just motifs, but memory.
Not just patterns, but possibility.
And because the School of Radical Imagination offers exactly that kind of learning.
This circle is intentionally placed just two days before doors close for the School’s inaugural pilot cohort — a once-a-year opportunity to study with visionary faculty in courses that weave together embodiment, justice, knowledge, and worldbuilding.
During the final 15 minutes, Besan Abu-Joudeh, founder of the School of Radical Imagination, will offer a clear and grounded overview of the five pilot courses, the 25-seat limit, and what it means to join the inaugural cohort. This will help you discern whether this deeper journey is aligned for you.
This session is for those who feel the pull toward something more — toward learning that honors your ancestry, ignites your imagination, and invites you into community with others dreaming a liberated future.
You’ll leave with:
💛 A feeling of rootedness and connection
💛 A renewed understanding of tatreez as ancestral imagination
💛 A deeper sense of the future you’re stitching toward
💛 Clarity about whether the School’s inaugural cohort is right for you
