Blacksmithing for Beginners!

Date: Tuesday, January 27, 2025

Time: 6pm-9pm

Description: Learn to forge in this 3-hour workshop, by making your very own leaf keychain! Students will learn the blacksmithing fundamentals of tapering, spreading, and drawing out material, and personalize their leaf using hand tools like punches and fullers.

Tuition & Materials: All tuition and materials are complimentary thanks to RAD Pass!*

This workshop is in an open air studio, we recommend bringing a coat to keep warm before the forges get fired up! Students should wear natural fibers such as cotton and denim. Uncuffed pants and closed-toe shoes are required (no shorts or sandals permitted). Long hair should be restrained. Safety glasses and hearing protection are provided; however participants may bring their own if preferred. We recommend bringing a water bottle to stay hydrated.

Workshop participants must be 18 years or older.

About the Artist

Casidhe is metal artist in Pittsburgh PA, working in steel as well as copper and other red metals. Their main focus is on instruction, and on developing small, approachable projects that can be adapted to fit a student’s vision. They are passionate about education, and are involved in education development at Protohaven, mentor graduate students at Carnegie Mellon University, and take every opportunity to talk to the public and get them excited about craft and robotics.
