Queer(ing) Design: Barcelona Edition
Overview
How can design be challenged, and reimagined to create futures that are wilder, freer, and more just?
As part of the global launch of Queer Design Club, with events in New York, Athens, and now Barcelona, this gathering marks the beginning of building a local queer design community here in Spain. Together, we’ll explore what it means to approach design through a queer lens: questioning the “normal", redistributing power and blurring binaries.
Across this 3-hour event, participants will get an introduction to queer theory, how it relates to design and take part in a hands-on workshop that shows how to apply a queer lens directly to design projects. It will also be a space to connect with others who want to infuse queer thinking into their creative practice.
“Queerness exists for us as an ideality that can be distilled from the past and used to imagine a future. The future is queerness’s domain,”
— José Esteban Muñoz, Cruising Utopia
Join us as we launch Queer Design Club and link Barcelona with New York and Athens, growing a queer design community that boldly reimagines horizons and expands what futures can be.
