About this event
Consent has become a hot topic in recent history, with slogans like "yes means yes" and "no is a complete sentence" entering the lexicon, along with sentiments such as "enthusiastic consent." While this social shift towards a culture of respect is awesome, mainstream consent education often leaves important interpersonal and communal safety considerations unexplained, and unexplored.
This workshop introduces you to foundational tools for creating a consent culture that is trauma-informed, anti-carceral, and makes space for our complex and nuanced human nature without bypassing harm.
In this workshop we'll cover:
- Moving beyond Yes and No: understanding our desires, limits, and how to express them
- Creating safe-enough environments for consent negotiation
- How our nervous systems, attachment patterns, social location, and trauma inform how we create and recieve boundaries
- Various relational consent fameworks including The Wheel of Consent (Betty Martin) and Spectrum of Response (Corinne Diachuk), as well as outdated frameworks (such as Planned Parenthood's FRIES) and what they're missing
Led by a queer, trans sex educator with over a decade of experience in the sex industry, this class is taught through an intersectional, trauma-informed lens that makes space for the layered ways that systems of oppression impact our access to choice and empowerment.
This workshop is a part of the Queering Connection series, which approaches sex, intimacy, and kink/BDSM education through a queer/trans, politicized lens, to support you in expanding your access to erotic ease, satisfaction, freedom and pleasure. It's highly recommended to take this workshop in tandem with Queering Domination: Power vs Control, which teaches you how to use your inherent power to create more enlivening, secure, and even transformational erotic experiences.
Some of the material offered in this workshop is influenced and inspired by the Wheel of Consent® as developed by Dr. Betty Martin. I am interested in the Wheel, but I have not yet studied with Betty or the School of Consent. For more information visit www.schoolofconsent.org.
About the Instructor
Hello, I'm Azrael (they/he), a queer/trans sex educator, healer, and erotic guide. I bring over a decade of experience in the sex industry, and extensive training in somatic healing practices into my work. I integrate comprehensive sex, kink, and intimacy education with therapeutic modalities to provide holistic guidance for your body - spirit - mind. I work from an IFS (internal family systems) perspective, that welcomes all parts of you.
My practice is rooted in liberatory politics, relational work, and the belief that we are all deserving of a radically sensuous relationship with ourselves, others, and the earth. I offer virtual sessions for individuals, couples, polycules, and groups worldwide. Visit www.azrael.guide for more information and to book a free discovery call.
