Queer Gardening Group - Intro to Pickling

By Transition Edinburgh South

Overview

Join us or drop in this Saturday to explore both vinegar pickling and lactofermentation, with a break for some late autumnal gardening.

Due to popular demand our free pickling workshop is back at the Queer Gardening Group :)

Join us or drop in 10am-2pm this Saturday 29th November, at Gracemount Community Garden, to explore both vinegar pickling and lactofermentation (with a break for some late autumnal gardening). Bring a jar or two if you have them!

This is our weekly free Queer Gardening Group session with Transition Edinburgh South. All welcome - booking helps us get an idea of numbers but isn't mandatory. Drop in 10am-2pm or come along for the day for tea, chat and crafts in a welcoming queer environment. We'll bring snacks, and there's a microwave on site to heat up your lunch.

Interested in keeping up with the group? Our ~monthly email newsletter with pics of what we've been up to is here https://queergardeningedinburgh.substack.com/, and all the garden's events are posted on facebook here https://www.facebook.com/transitionedinburghsouth/.

Accessibility of the site:

The garden is wheelchair accessible via the Gracemount Mansion grounds. There are no stairs to enter, although there is a slope; if you use a manual wheelchair and need assistance, we are available to help. The garden itself is mostly flat and has a combination of even and uneven paths, wide enough for wheelchairs, with surfaces made of gravel or grass. There are a few elevated planters and tables for people to garden while sitting on a chair. The indoor portacabin space is step-free and there is a gender neutral, accessible toilet on site, up a short ramp; the toilet door is quite heavy. There is limited parking available outside the mansion. Support and assistance dogs are welcome. If we can help you access sessions, please message us and we'll see what we can do.

For newcomers, directions to the garden can be easily found by searching Gracemount Mansion or Gracemount Community Garden on Google Maps. As you enter the mansion grounds, you'll spot a portacabin on your left, with the garden just behind it through an archway in the wall. Gracemount Community Garden is a public space, people may come and go throughout the day.

As a community space, we're actively working on making the garden more accessible and welcome any requests or feedback to better accommodate everyone. Please get in touch if you have any questions, concerns or requests.
