Queer Declutter December - Virtual Decluttering Party
Overview
Join us for Declutter December!
Declutter your life and connect with fellow queers in a dedicated space to get your life together!
Whether it's clearing out your closet, organizing your digital files, or decluttering your mind, we'll declutter together from the comfort of our own homes. Wrap up loose ends and get things ready for the new year!
Format:
This virtual event will be held in one of Homoground's virtual spaces. It's best to join on a laptop or desktop computer as you might not be able to access all our platform features on mobile.
We will begin with introductions and intentions. There will be a break at the midway point to share progress. At the end, we'll celebrate all that we've accomplished, no matter how big or small!
Feel free to take progress photos before and after for that visual satisfaction.
You can use this space however you need! Whether its cleaning out your closet, opening your mail pile (who doesn't have one of these??), sorting paperwork, matching your socks, deleting emails, organizing your digital files, deleting photos off your phone/computer, [insert something that you need to do here].
What happens at these declutter parties?
- We'll start off by giving a short update on what we will be working on during the session. If possible, take a before photo of the area you'll be decluttering to use as a progress pic at the end.
- We will then mute and get to our tasks. Cameras on or off, but on is preferred so that we can be motivated by seeing others do their tasks.
- We will take a break halfway to give an update and chat for little, and then get back to our tasks.
- At the end of the session, we'll give final updates and wrap up. We'll take another progress photo of the area you were working on so you can see the difference! And we'll take a group photo for those who want to freeze the moment in time.
What's the point of a declutter party?
- A lot of these tasks are mundane and not exciting. It can be easy to push them off, over and over again, until the point that now it's an overwhelming task that seems impossible to complete. "Body Doubling" allows us to state our intentions to each other and create a form of accountability. We are more likely to complete a task if we tell someone we are going to do it, especially if we know we have to give them an update about it by a specific time.
- These sessions create a dedicated space for you to focus on these tasks. By RSVPing and having the event on your calendar, you are committing to doing the task. Rather than saying "I'll do it next week". Putting it on your calendar helps your brain know that you will be focusing on that task on that specific time/day.
- It's social! These events are great for both introverts and extroverts. For extroverts, many decluttering tasks can be solo activities, this invites others to do the boring work with you, while everyone is in the comfort of their homes. For introverts, it's a great way to meet and make connections with other people without having to leave your house!
- Probably more reasons so just come check it out to see for yourself!
