About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 45 minutes
  • ALL AGES

Curious about quantum physics but don’t know where to start? You’re not alone — and this event is for you.

Join us for Quantum for Everyone, a free, public lecture at USC that breaks down the mind-bending world of quantum science in a way that’s clear, fun, and exciting.

🗣️ Quantum physics for realists: looking under the hood and not at the hype
In this talk by Dr. Aaron Wirthwein, we’ll explore what happens when we let go of our classical assumptions about reality. We’re often told that quantum physics is spooky, paradoxical, or even unknowable - but what if the theory isn’t the problem, only the way we’ve been told to think about it? From Galileo to Schrödinger, science moves forward by challenging assumptions. Dr. Wirthwein will show how quantum mechanics doesn’t add to the fog - it clears it - and why those insights might just matter in everyday life.

Led by experts from USC, Caltech, UCLA, Chapman and beyond, this event is part of ☀️ Summer of Quantum in LA 🌴 — a 10-week citywide celebration of quantum science, as part of the International Year of Quantum.

🧠 No background in physics needed. Just curiosity.

📍Location: Science Lecture Hall (SLH), University of Southern California
📅 Date/Time: 06/11/25 6:30 PM to 8:15 PM
🎟️ Admission: Free! Open to the public. Registration required.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a student or scientist to attend?

Nope! This talk is meant for the public — high school students, parents, artists, tech folks, teachers, and the quantum-curious are all welcome.

Where can I park for the event?

Free street parking is available in nearby neighborhoods. Paid structures on campus ($14–$20) and 2-hour free parking with validation at USC Village are also great options. Arrive early to find a spot and walk to the venue.
