QCH Speech Pathology Transitional Feeding Telesimulation

By Queensland Children's Hospital Speech Pathology Department
Online event

Overview

Introductory transitional feeding telesimulation for novice-intermediate speech pathologists. An interactive activity-based workshop.

The term ‘transitional feeder’ is used to describe a child who is transitioning through developmental stages (e.g., starting solids, transitioning to chewable foods, introducing cup drinking). Children experiencing difficulty moving through these stages are described as having ‘transitional feeding difficulties’.

This virtual, small group workshop is designed for novice-intermediate speech pathologists (i.e., clinicians with limited to some experience working with infants and toddlers with transitional feeding difficulties).

During the workshop you will have the opportunity to:

· Develop your theoretical and practical knowledge regarding transitional feeding

· Practice components of transitional feeding assessment and management (e.g., exploring spoons and cups, identifying different food textures, assessing positioning)

· Work with other learners in a small group to apply this theoretical knowledge within two simulated outpatient scenarios (including problem solving and decision making) including:

o Infant having difficulty starting solids

o Toddler experiencing difficulties progressing past smooth puree

Participant numbers will be capped at 10 attendees to support optimal small group learning and participation. You will require access to a computer with Zoom®, as well as a camera and microphone to participate.

Please note that as this is a simulated learning experience, active participation in the scenarios is strongly encouraged to gain the most value from the course.

Registration is $400 (inc. GST + Eventbrite administration fee) and includes:

  • Pre-workshop materials and handouts, sent via email
  • Full day workshop delivered via Zoom
  • Transitional feeding resources (for use in the simulations) posted to you
