He's also the Founder and Director of the Origins Project, which explores the origins of the universe, life, and consciousness amongst other things, and he serves as a member of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists Science and Security Board, charged with keeping us informed of the very real risk our species faces of annihilating itself. And finally, as an outspoken defender of critical thinking who's concerned with where we're headed, he was the 2015 Humanist of the Year.
