INFORMATION:
Ukrainian style whole eggs decorated using a wax-resist (batik) method. The historically symbolic designs are written with pure beeswax between baths of special dyes. Each egg requires hours of focused handiwork. The work is simple, but the outcome is fantastic!
This captivating work-playshop will teach you the basics of using the Ukrainian (eastern European) batik process to decorate your own beautiful eggs which can be presented whole or blown out to become stunning ornaments for yourself and others.
Each participant will learn history and fun facts about this fascinating craft and decorate two whole raw chicken eggs using traditional designs and traditional tools.
Each participant will decorate 2 large, cleaned chicken eggs using a traditional kistka (medium), a block of pure beeswax, a set of six dyes; all materials will be supplied by the teacher. The process requires working with an open flame.
Participants will have the option to either take their whole eggs home with them or leave them with the instructor (for 2-3 days) to be varnished, blown out and strung with a gold finding.
A take-home kit consisting of all these materials with full instructions of designs to make at home will be available for at instructor’s cost.
This workshop requires about 4 hours of dedicated time. Give yourself the gift of quiet, meditative playtime to focus in a fabulous, engaging process. At the end of the session, each person will have two wholly unique pieces of art.
