PUTV Episode 4: "Dream Performance Makeover" hosted by Demelza Watts

Season One of Public Universal Television goes out with a bang! Not just a bang but multiple gunshots... possibly a crucifixion? After a financial audit reveals PUTV was actually part of a secret intelligence operation to innovate methods of "enhanced interrogation", new guest host Demelza Watts embarks on a "Dream Performance Makeover" to reconnect art to its audience.

What if instead of feeling like torture, performance art really cared about its viewers? The PUTV team and their enigmatic leader The Temple-Made-Flesh love their congregation deeply and invite you to join them as they fix unecessarily punishing and aggressive peformance art... even if it involves violent struggle.

Doors open at 1900 for a showcase of performance art in the Tempel lobby, main performance begins on-stage at 1945 and lasts approximately 60 minutes.

Featuring Leslie Lawrence, Sophia Simensky, Demelza Watts, Margrét Dúadóttir Landmark, Rita Borralho Silva, Saghar Afzalnia, Agata Leszczyńska and Oscar Marie Le Merle. The performance is presented in English or in Dutch with English subtitles.

Viewers for this performance must consent to the use of their image as audience member, in exhibition and broadcast and future promotion, for the 'Public Universal Television' project.

About Public Universal Television

Public Universal Television is a new art performance series developing the practice of performing the artistic production of television in co-operation with an audience. Season One of PUTV was created by Leslie Lawrence, Sophia Simensky, Margrét Dúadóttir Landmark, Oscar Marie Le Merle, Rita Borralho Silva, Saghar Afzalnia, Agata Leszczyńska along with guest hosts Karina Beumer, Marnix Vinkenborg, Andrea López Bernal, Tibor Dieters, and Demelza Watts.

Residing in the former theosophical temple of Amsterdam, they have created an esoteric society of video makers looking at news ways to make co-operative media. For each performance they co-operate with a different artist, making them the guest host of a new tv show, the filming of which is then staged for the live audience as a piece of performance art.

Public Universal Television is supported by the AFK (Amsterdam Fund for the Arts) & Mondriaan Fonds

Frequently asked questions

Is this a 'real' television show?

This is an artistic performance of the production of a television show: so there will be cameras, lights, music and some second-takes with respect to the fact that it will be later edited into a piece of video art resembling a tv show. However, it is intended for art purposes rather than commercial.

Is there audience interaction?

Audience members join the 'church' of PUTV and are asked to participate in hymns, reactions and other things the host may require to make the show happen. Participation is not mandatory so you may politely refuse to take part and still watch.
