Synopsis:

Rittika returns to her ancestral house with her husband Rajeev to celebrate her mother’s 80th birthday. After reaching her house she finds that her mother is not the same as she had always believed her to be. Initially jolted with this realization, she slowly comes to terms with her condition and its irreversibility. Through her mother she comes to change her perspective on life and being. What seemed like an ostensibly routine and ritualistic event turns to a larger metaphysical enquiry into human existence and how the past dictates our current state. The film deftly braids in questions of failing memory, cherishing the past, a fear of obsolescence and reconciliation into a haunting, moving story that is at its heart about burying the ghosts of the past in order to make peace with what has happened so that one can move on.

Organized by

Maiaca has brought various events and programs to our community . Indian Art exhibitions at local museums, to cultural performance of Indian and western dances, to eclectic musical performances and on to conversations about modern Indian art and its influence on the world stage, MAIACA – in its short existence – has made an impact on the community. 2020 was planned to be an exciting year with 5/6 events planned, however, due to the pandemic, we could only implement two of our events and then had to stop and rethink our strategy to continue to reach our community. It took us a couple of months, but we were able to switch seamlessly to digital/ virtual programming. From June 2020 to now, MAIACA continued to bring quality programs to the community with seminars on health and wellness highlighting the rich Indian holistic approach such as Ayurveda, to Ghazal concert by internationally acclaimed artist Talat Aziz and we were even able to re-create our own virtual version of Maiaca's magical Diwali show. The board is very pleased with its endeavours, however, none of this would have been possible without the continued support from our patrons such as you.
